Our experience.
It is our experience that children who regularly attend a dental practice from the age of 3 years can be helped to look after their teeth. Any concerns a child might have can also be easily allayed and especially when there is no treatment required.
The first visit.
We invite children between the ages of 2 and 3 years to attend the surgery.
At this appointment we like to provide an informal dental examination.
Most children enjoy this informal visit to the practice.
These visits help children take an interest in looking after their teeth.
We are also able to instruct parents on how best to provide oral care for the child’s teeth and gums.
There will be no charge for this visit when the attending parent is a patient of the practice.
The second visit.
On the second visit children accept a more thorough examination of the teeth and gums.
Further advice will be recommended to help prevent oral disease.
The dentist may also give dietary advice to help the growing teeth.
Subsequent visits to the dentist.
We would hope that with our advice and regular checkups the need for treatment for your children will be reduced.
The benefits.
On subsequent visits children attending the same dentist become more accepting of treatment should this be necessary.
Children are more motivated to look after their teeth and gums.
Dietary advice may reduce decay in teeth so reducing the need for future dental treatment.
At all times we hope to make your child’s visit to the dentist a pleasant experience.

Fissure Sealants
A particular treatment we find children may benefit from is having the back
teeth coated or fissured sealed. Sealants are a safe and painless way of
protecting your children's teeth from decay. For more information about

If you child is involved in contact sports we would also advise the wearing
of a sports shield while playing sports such as rugby, hockey, football and
any other contact sport. Should your child be unfortunate to receive a blow
to his/her front teeth, a fitted mouth guard made specifically for your
child will considerably help to reduce the load on individual teeth and may
prevent fracture or other injury to a front tooth. We would recommend sports
shields to be made from impressions taken in the surgery as they provide the
best protection for front teeth. Children having Orthodontic treatment or at
the mixed dentition stage (with both deciduous or milk and permanent or
adult teeth) may require alternative types of sports shields more
appropriate to accommodate the changes in position and shape of the teeth.(click here)
