Our Equipment

It is the policy of the Dental Room to invest in good quality equipment and training to provide the widest possible facilities for our patients. We have invested in providing a good quality dental chair as we know that it is important to be comfortable while receiving treatment in the dental surgery. Many patients indicate that they should like to take the chair home because it is so comfortable! Sorry it is plumbed in!

The dental chair has an intra-oral camera so that patients can see magnified photographs of their teeth and gums. We have the facility to store these photographs with the computer patient records and to print them out at any future date.

With the advancements of digital radiography, we have also invested in a digital OPG machine which takes radiographic scans of the teeth and jaws. The intra-oral digital X-ray machine also allows immediate access to the radiograph once taken (without developing) and computer storage with the patient’s records. The computer program also allows for magnification and enhancement to aid in diagnosis.

We use fibre-optic handpieces using a micro-motor for preparing teeth. With these handpieces the dentist can prepare for fillings, crowns etc. with a quiet cutting action and reduced vibration while the fibre-optics increase his view of the area being prepared.

For cleaning teeth and gums, we have an air scaler which provides scaling of teeth with the minimum vibration.

Our Compressor provides an oil-free and water free environment treatment in the mouth. Any water used in the surgery is distilled for use in through the handpieces and autoclave sterilizer.

Our sterilization procedures are as follows:

- All metal instruments are cleaned to remove any debris.
- Handpieces are automatically oiled and cleaned through an Assistina machine
- All handpieces and metal dental instruments are sterilized at 136.c for 3 minutes.
- All instruments that cannot be sterilized are cleaned and sprayed with a cold sterilising solution. These types of instruments are kept to a minimum.
- All other instruments are disposable and discarded into clinical waste for specialist disposal.

We are constantly looking to enhance our cross-infection control procedures and are working with Island Health Supplies Ltd. (www.islandhealth.je) in Jersey for this purpose.

The Dental Room is also constantly looking for innovative equipment and products to improve and increase the facilities we can offer to our patients.
